MUTE
Antwerp, 29 April 2010 Nocturne, opening night 6-9 pm
Name of the performance: “MUTE”
Material needed for the performance:
silver dress, high heel shoes, iPod, two sets of headphones, splitter, pedestal, explanatory paper, projector, DVD player
The performance will continue until the gallery closes its doors.
I will stand next to a white pedestal, behind me a projection of Flash drawings and altered photos.
I will not speak during the performance. I will not sit down.
I will not move away from my designated place and will not take off my headphones.
I will not look anybody in the eyes while I’m waiting.
I will only look someone in the eyes if they put the headphones on.
When somebody puts on the second set of headphones
I will move towards him/her and focus my attention on them.
I will let then touch my iPod so they can find a song or text to listen to (I will listen with them).
An explanatory text has been placed next to the headphones to show people how they may interact with me: by looking into my eyes, holding my hand or dancing with me.
I will spend my energy on the person in front of me for as long as they want.
When they stop, I will rest my eyes and avoid any further eye contact with them.
I will stand at the same spot until somebody else puts on the headphones.
I will not answer any questions.
